At the age of 12 I talked my parents into buying me my first snowboard. Armed with a hollow, plastic, single tipped behemoth called "black snow", I was ready to tame the 60 foot hills of my parents' western-minnesota lake cabin. I tried and tried but the dream of carving out paths in maplewood state park just never came to fruition. I gave up then, but 10 years later I was on a proper mountain receiving my first lesson from a friend on how to do the real thing.
Snowboarding can be a very intimidating sport. All I heard about before starting is that I was definitely going get hurt or at least be very sore. I've found these statements to be mostly correct, but don't let that sway you from trying. The first day for me was the hardest and after that, I found it to be very enjoyable, more so than skiing.
The most recent Playstation 3 firmware update (1.80) from Sony not only gave us HDTV owners great new resolution-scaling options, but they slipped in support for media servers as well! I don't run a Media Center PC at home, but found a couple of options for easily setting up a DLNA-compliant media server on my home PC despite the fact.
I received my first plant in 2001. It was a 5-leaf baby spider plant which had been cut and given to me by a coworker. I had never put much thought into plant-care before this gift, but within a few years I was finding that my friends were all asking me how I have such a green thumb.
I feel like it's a universal desire. Everyone seems to want to play guitar at some point or another. I definitely did. I was thirteen years old and a friend of mine was telling me how his dad just bought a couple of guitars and an amp so they could play together. I was invited over just to mess around with them because neither of us really knew how to play. We were in a dark, dingy basement trying to figure out how to play nirvana songs when Bob, the father, showed up and said "Let's jam. It'll be fun. I'll show you guys what to do." They only had 2 guitars but he brought a bass guitar in with him and asked if I've ever played before. Of course I hadn't, so I told him, "Nope." He assured me it'd be a piece of cake. I slung the bass over my shoulder and right then I got my first bass lesson.
Like many people this year, I was fascinated by all of the new micro battery-powered RC helicopters showing up for christmas. The videos would show them performing precise acrobatic maneuvers, picking up little items, play-fighting in the air and just being a blast in general to fly. They looked easy to operate, quick to learn and they were relatively cheap. I've always been interested in RC Planes and Helicopters but it wasn't until recently that they've become affordable enough for the average person to buy.
