If you bang up your CX2 too many times, you may end up with a bent inner shaft. A good indicator is if the helicopter has vibration when throttled up and the blades are undamaged. Fortunately, E-Flite Helicopters are easy to work on and the inner shaft isn't too difficult to replace. I was able to take care of mine in about 20 minutes start to finish. Read on for a picture tutorial showing how to do it.

Start by removing the full canopy. If you haven't done this before, just pull off the rubber stoppers from the plastic rods and then slide both the rods out. After the rods are out you must remove the landing skids. All that's required is to pull them out of their sockets. They are only pressure-fit.

Take out a very small phillips screwdriver and loosen the two screws on the bottom gear.

Now grab a hold of the upper hub assembly and pull. It should slide out without too much resistance and the gear will just fall off the bottom.

Insert the new inner shaft and line up the screws attached to the bottom gear with the flat parts of the shaft. With the shaft pushed all the way in and the screws lined up, tighten the screws until they are fairly tight, just a little over thumb-tight.
Unscrew the flybar retention screw and remove your old flybar (if it's still straight). It should just pop out. Installation is opposite of removal so just pop the flybar into the new hub, clip the linkage on and put the new screw in to thumb-tight.
The new hub will also need rotor blades. To transfer your old rotors, just unscrew the screw on each side to remove them and they should slide away from each other to separate. Slide them together on the new hub and screw in until tight. There can't be gaps between them or the helicopter may wobble.
Put your canopy back on, re-insert the landing skids and you should be ready to fly!

Inner Shaft stuck
I have fallowed your instruction and removed the two screws from the lower gear and removed the gear itself. However, no matter how hard I pull on the inner shaft I can't get it to come out. Am I missing something?

Are you pulling from the top
Are you pulling from the top or trying to pull it out the bottom? Always pull from the top.
hey..i took off the 2 screws
hey..i took off the 2 screws on the bottom and the 4 on the shaft but....the uppter hub just wont come off i feel like im going to break the damn thing any tips?

The upper part is connected to the shaft. They are a single piece.

Hi i saw2 your tutorial on replacing shaft and stuff on blade cx 2I have a question, does the top blade motor, run hotter than the other, like mine is doing ?John

I think it might. I installed the heat sink on mine to get a little more life out of the motors but it would make sense that the top one which spins the flybar uses more power and puts out more heat. It has to work harder.

Thanks for the DIY instructions and the guide to R/C Helis. I just bought a Blade CX2 and trying to get a hang of it, and your DIY guide helped me change the rotor blades.

I was able to replace the lower rotor head, but now I'm having trim issues. I can't prevent it from forward and to the left travel

What do I do if the two screws you mentioned are so damn tight that they just will NOT come out? I am in danger of both striping the screws and hurting my fingers!
